Let’s Talk About Beauty Standards, Bodies, and Self-Worth

There’s no denying it—we live in a world where society sets a narrow, unrealistic standard for what “beautiful” looks like.
From a young age, we’re taught what a “healthy” body should be. We absorb these ideals without even realising it—through TV, magazines, social media, and even casual conversations. We're handed an image of beauty that often feels impossible to live up to.
We grow up surrounded by media that praises teeny-tiny models, idolises celebrities and their fad diets, and glorifies the so-called “perfect body.”
It’s exhausting—and it’s not real.
“Skinny. Healthy. Fat.”
From the moment we begin to understand ourselves, we’re bombarded with labels.
You're told not to be “too skinny,” but also not “overweight.” There’s this invisible, ideal size and weight we’re expected to fit into—based on charts and expectations that don’t reflect real people with real lives.
If you're thin, people assume you must have an eating disorder.If you're curvier, you're told you have a “bubbly personality,” as if that’s the only compliment available.
These messages stick. They shape how we view ourselves—and how we judge others.
But here’s the truth: all bodies are different—and all bodies are worthy.
🧠 Beauty in the Eyes of the Media
The media doesn’t whisper its definition of beauty—it shouts it.
“Flawless.” “Skinny.” “Perfect.”Those are the words we see splashed across every screen.
Every day brings a new miracle diet, a celebrity fitness challenge, or a so-called “fix” for a body that was never broken.
But most of these are just quick fixes for problems that aren’t even real. They sell the idea that you’re not good enough as you are—so you'll keep buying, keep scrolling, keep doubting.
📱 Social Media’s “Perfect” Illusion
How often do you catch yourself scrolling through Instagram, comparing your body to someone else’s?
Have you ever stopped to ask:What is this really doing for me?
We all know the difference between a posed and unposed photo—yet we still compare ourselves to filtered, edited snapshots of someone else’s highlight reel.
Social media shows only what people want you to see, and it's easy to forget that.
So, next time you feel the urge to compare, take a pause:
